Cheshire's Ives Farm is a place for all seasons. In the spring and summer, the fields are full of strawberries, corn, tomatoes and peppers ripening under the hot sun. In the fall, pumpkins and mums sit around a farm stand, the maples lining the fields in a blaze of autumn color. In the winter, snow falls around the red barns of the farm – a Currier and Ives-like setting. And it's all preserved by the Cheshire Land Trust. The 164-acre farm tucked away in the northeast corner of town along the banks of the Quinnipiac River was acquired by the trust in 2006 when Betty Ives left it to the group as a gift with the promise of "sustaining farming as long as possible and practical," according to the trust's website.
