The Meriden Public Schools is comprised of eight neighborhood elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools. The Meriden Public Schools also includes Venture Academy, an alternative education program for high school students and a College and Career Readiness Center. Meriden continues to have an increasing and diversified population with an enrollment of 9,100 students. Eighty six percent of all school age Meriden residents are provided an education by the Meriden Public Schools. Individual schools, as well as staff throughout the district, have been the recipients of countless awards and recognition in recent years. Benjamin Franklin, Casimir Pulaski and Roger Sherman Elementary Schools have been named Blue Ribbon schools by the U.S. Department of Education. John Barry Elementary School received recognition as a Title I distinguished school program and Washington Middle School has been given outstanding middle school recognition by the Connecticut Association of Schools. Teachers and administrators throughout the district have received awards and recognition not only from peers within the district but from community, state and national organizations in the field of education.
