ote ARATA State Representative Dear Voters, I am a supporter of SB 453, An Act Concerning Classroom Safety and Disruptive Behavior. My opponent, Cathy Abercrombie voted against it in the last legislative session despite overwhelming bipartisan support, and Governor Malloy vetoed the bill. The bil as drafted would have protected students from bullying, cyberbullying, teen dating violence, and other violations of classroom safety Every student is entitled to and deserves the best public education we can provide. I will be sure to focus my legislative efforts on the rights of ALL students to receive an education, in a safe environment that is conducive to learning. A disruptive student affects an entire classroom and every child in that classroom suffers as a result. Teachers often report their safety and that of their students are put at risk repeatedly, that student misbehavior interferes with their teaching, and that many of the disruptive students are repeat performers. Any parent with a child in a classroom that is repeatedly disrupted, or has a teacher or fellow student injured, would insist that a mechanism was in place to remove the threat from potential future occurrences. SB 453 was exactly that mechanism, and my opponent voted against it. This is one of the things we all pay taxes for: the safety of our children and their teachers!
